Replying to @mi 💖 Domestic abuse with narcissist traits is honestly simple to me now. Psychologists say there’s no treating couples like #narcissist and #bpd. I think it’s often #autism and #ADHD that isn’t accommodated or diagnosed. People say I “hate labels” but have no issue calling a criminal one. We can reduce that with labels that create “healthy egos” as someone has their needs met. Psychology 101. My family for example: One parent with literal thinking who values being correct and is told they’re smart… but also being told their social skills are wrong. That can cause low self esteem that hides as being a huge ego. That manifests as narcissistic personality disorder when untreated. One parent with unfocused thinking constantly told their misbehaving or doing things wrong…. they value getting approval from others and not making decisions. That can cause low self esteem that depends on validation and is an unstable ego. That manifests as borderline personality disorder when untreated. A big ego is a fragile defence mechanism for deep insecurities causing revenge, blaming, resisting feedback, judgement of others, holding grudges, constant need for validation, lying, entitlement, superiority, arrogance, selfishness, micromanaging, smear campaigns, passive aggression, silent treatments, defensiveness, victimizing, grandiose storytelling, name dropping, lack of empathy, lack of self awareness, controlling, denying things, narcissism, judgment, gaslighting, moving goal posts, cutting in traffic, tailgating, speeding up when someone tries to merge, brake checking, flashing high beams. Unstable ego can cause fear of abandonment, idealizing, devaluing, spending, substance use, reckless driving, emotional outbursts, chronic emptiness, rejection sensitivity, unstable intense relationships, dissociative feelings, extreme reactions to perceived criticism, clinging and withdrawing, testing loyalty, feeling misunderstood, misreading neutral cues as hostile, difficulty calming down after upset, identity disturbances, paranoid thoughts under stress, feeling like a burden, rage when feeling rejected, threatening breakups, feeling empty without a favourite person, projecting shame, black and white thinking, self-sabotage, chronic fear of being alone, pushing others away.
