@.hormonepositivej: 🎗️ HORMONE BLOCKERS CAN CHANGE YOUR BRAIN, YOUR BODY… AND EVEN HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF. 💔 Nobody prepared me for how different life could feel on hormone therapy after breast cancer. For women with ER+/PR+ breast cancer, medications like Tamoxifen, Anastrozole, Letrozole and Exemestane can help lower the risk of cancer returning. But have you ever wondered WHY these medications can make us feel like completely different people? 🧠 1️⃣ OUR BRAINS ARE AFFECTED BY ESTROGEN Estrogen doesn’t just affect our reproductive system. It also plays a role in brain function, mood, sleep and memory. When hormone therapy blocks estrogen’s effects or dramatically lowers estrogen levels, some women experience: 🧠 Brain fog and forgetfulness 💔 Anxiety or mood changes 😔 Feeling emotionally different 😴 Trouble sleeping and concentrating You may feel like your brain doesn’t work the way it used to. 🦴 2️⃣ OUR BODIES CAN FEEL YEARS OLDER Estrogen helps maintain bone health and influences joints, muscles and other tissues. When estrogen levels drop, some women experience: 🔥 Hot flashes and night sweats 🦴 Joint stiffness and muscle aches 😴 Fatigue and low energy 💔 Vaginal dryness and changes in intimacy ⚖️ Changes in body composition Sometimes even getting out of bed feels different. 💔 3️⃣ WHY DO WE FEEL LIKE WE’VE LOST OURSELVES? Hormonal changes, poor sleep, treatment-related fatigue and the emotional impact of cancer can all affect how we feel. Some women describe: “I don’t recognize myself anymore.” “My emotions are all over the place.” “I can’t think clearly.” “I feel like I aged overnight.” AND THESE EXPERIENCES DESERVE TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. ❤️ 4️⃣ DOES EVERYONE EXPERIENCE THIS? NO! Some women tolerate hormone therapy very well. Others struggle with significant side effects. And not every symptom is caused by hormone blockers. Chemotherapy, menopause, stress, sleep problems and other medical conditions can contribute too. 🎗️ HERE’S WHAT I WANT EVERY SURVIVOR TO KNOW. HORMONE THERAPY CAN HELP PROTECT US FROM RECURRENCE, BUT OUR QUALITY OF LIFE MATTERS TOO. You should never have to suffer in silence. Talk with your oncologist about side effects, symptom treatments, medication changes or other options before stopping therapy. WE FOUGHT CANCER TO HAVE A FUTURE. WE ALSO DESERVE TO FEEL GOOD WHILE LIVING IT. 🤍 👇 LET’S TALK! 💊 Which hormone blocker are you taking? 🧠 Have you experienced brain fog, anxiety or memory changes? 🦴 Has your body felt different since starting treatment? ❤️ DO YOU STILL FEEL LIKE THE SAME PERSON YOU WERE BEFORE CANCER? Share your experience below. Someone else may be feeling exactly the same way. 🎗️ Follow @HormonePositiveJourney for honest conversations about hormone-positive breast cancer, treatment side effects and survivorship. 📚 Sources: National Cancer Institute — Hormone Therapy for Breast Cancer; American Cancer Society — Hormone Therapy for Breast Cancer. #breastcancer #medication #cancer #mindbodysoul #survivor

Before breast cancer, I already had fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, gastroparesis and a sliding hernia. And 3 weeks after ringing the bell 🔔 I had a heart attack. I’ve always been in pain so taking LETROZOLE the pain is always there, but now after bone density scan there is bone thinning in my spine, don’t know about anywhere else because only had scan on spine, so now I’m taking vitamin D. I am trying to deal with it all. I have no energy, exhausted and have no

Maybe I’m lying but I think I took it for 4 years then I was done. Quality of life was worth more. Skipped a lot of days by mistake…

Ask your doctor how much they really help your odds. For me it wasn’t worth it.

Felt emotionally numb on Anastrozole which led to despair. On Exemestane I’m either sobbing or raging. Bad sleep with both. I’ll try Letrozole next. I’m 70, no kids and my husband is gone now 10 years. I might choose quality of life over possible short period of time over terrible side effects for (maybe) the long term.

I’ve been on letrozole for a year along with Kisqali. Also started metformin for diabetes at the same time. It was a bit tough at the beginning but not sure which drug was the problem. I’m currently off diabetic medication and other than fatigue I don’t feel bad.

I stopped Anastrozole after 22 months to improve my quality of life both mentally and physically. I've been off for about 2 months for and have my life back! I know the risks and currently have just been staring at this bottle of Tamoxifen by oncologist suggested I go on... I'm still thinking about it 🤦🏽♀️

It’s all so discouraging to think about. The treatments for breast cancer are so much more successful these days, but at such a cost.

I’m in for almost four years with Letrozole. Morning motion is important and eating less sugar. I put evil bone water on my knees when they are stiff and have regular Accupuncture just for my relaxation.
