I rarely talk about my actual, professionally diagnosed mental health condition because I’m terrified of sounding like the people who watched three TikToks and diagnosed themselves. Meanwhile, I had to see an actual psychiatrist and undergo extensive psychological testing. And let me tell you, those testing activities were my own personal version of HELL. I was STRESSED, SWEATING, and questioning every life decision that led me to that chair. 😭😂 So when someone starts talking about their diagnosis and I get the sneaking suspicion Dr. TikTok was the attending physician, I just casually ask, “Oh! Did you have to go through all that testing, too?” Because respectfully, I need to know if we both survived the psychological Hunger Games or if your For You Page just told you that you have a condition because you hate certain noises.

Lol yes! I had a new client last week telling me she was diagnosed with something called a touch of. “A touch of OCD, a touch of narcissistic rage, a touch of ADD, touch of bipolar, a touch of trauma...” She said “its called a touch of.” She was dead serious.

i told my therapist I'm autistic (because I am) and I said I'd send her the documents with he official diagnosis and notes if she needs them because my previous therapist was curious so I figured whatever. she then looked me up and down and said "oh you like mean it like fr" so I guess she thought I just tiktok diagnosed myself or whatever and I felt genuinely insulted lmao 🤣

…. and we explore that. our clients are experts on themselves. you are in the room with the patient for maybe an hour a week. i’m a social worker and my autism was written off as a “social media diagnosis” for 7 years. i have recently been diagnosed after years of fighting. this is a very ignorant take and is perpetuating harm.
