In Germany it’s very hard to get into private accounting upfront. They mostly expect years of experience in audit or research.

I'll take either at this point. Finding a entry level role is impossible

I’m 52 and have worked in healthcare/hospital accounting for 10 years and love it! I was in higher education and project accounting previously. Never went public and have always worked normal hours. I was able to watch my children’s sports games and dance lessons, etc. Public would have never been my thing.

Idk, I do acknowledge how well rounded public accounting can help you be, but I really love the idea of private accounting and predictable hours, as well as going into a specific industry I like.

Started in public. Then hoped to another firm as a digital marketer. Billable hours and busy season became a deal breaker.

Completed an internship in private and currently working my first job in public as a staff accountant/auditor. I already had in mind before I graduated that I wanted to work in private accounting but ended up accepting an offer in public because I wasn’t getting any feedback from employers I had interviewed with (mainly due to lack or experience) and while I don’t plan on staying in public accounting long term, it has served me well to this point strictly for the fact that I am learning and growing my skills!

I chose public accounting since where I live they pay 20-30% more compared to private/gov. accounting at the entry level. I was also getting significantly more traction with public accounting, compared to private accounting in the interview process and offer letters. I think I make the right choice since it will allow me to get my CPA and I discovered that I like tax more than audit. Which was surprising.
