@wbgojazz: When you talk about the greats of jazz organ, you can’t leave out Jimmy Smith! Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Smith began his musical journey on the piano before making his mark on the Hammond B-3 organ. By the 1950s, he was turning heads with his unique blend of blues, bebop, and R&B, helping establish the organ as a leading instrument in jazz. Through his groundbreaking recordings with Blue Note Records and collaborations with legends like Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell, Smith helped shape the sound of soul jazz and influenced generations of musicians. We’re taking it back to 1965 with this performance from one of jazz’s most influential organists! #WBGO #JimmySmith #JazzHistory #JazzOrgan #JazzLegends

Check out Jimmy on “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”. Crank it up. One of the ‘cookin-est’ tunes I have ever heard. His bass pedal work on that B3 is stellar!
