Similar to my culture. Ironically, they say that sons take care of their parents in old age but I have only seen their daughters or their daughter-in-laws take care of them. I am not speaking against all sons but just from I have seen. I just hope that everyone call love & care for each other regardless of gender expectations.

My dad is the oldest out of his siblings and the only one to have daughters, 2. People have always told him it’s a shame that he didn’t have sons to carry he family name but he’s always laughed at them and told them his daughters are worth more than any son.

I’m the second daughter and when my mom was still pregnant with me people told her to sell me for a son (yes 20 years ago it was still a normal thing in rural China) or adopt a son and say she had twins. I’m happy people are waking up and realize that daughters are the one who’s taking care of you in your old age. Better late than never
