sorry if I missed this somewhere, but have you figured out a farrier for muffins feet yet?

For minis I try to use as small of hole possible if I use a hay net. I use 1/4” I believe nets. Yes they are small but I don’t have to worry about feet caught in them.

Yes big risk!!! Horses naturally eat off the ground! It is best for them to eat from the floor! Look it up. Jaw alignment, teeth wear, good neck posture.

I see your videos pop up sometimes and I just want to say THANK YOU. thank you for stepping up trying to do the right thing and not just assume how to care for an animal. Equine are much more difficult to care for than people think. I wish more people were like you and your husband.

Definitely get a good farrier, and ask the previous owner for vet records (if they have them). If needed have a vet come out just to do an evaluation to make sure his/her teeth are good.

Just a tip, instead of getting the metal bucket heaters, I used the small pond heaters in the water trough and they worked amazing and we're half the price. For buckets I put one bucket inside another with hay in between for insulation. Heated buckets in a barn always made me nervous. Since your husband seems handy he might be able to figure out how to make an insulated enclosure around the bottom of their buckets.

Use heated water buckets vs a water heater. Unless you are putting a heater in a tank!💗

I’m still confused how you ended up getting the horse with the house without knowing?? Like did the previous owners just leave muffin back when they moved and you thought they’d take him with them?

Nice looking feeders. Agree with many on here. Just get the heated water buckets from TSC. Easy peezy. I would avoid the separate water heaters.

If you’re going the water heater route, I’d def look into automatic waterers. Not sure the price difference but when it’s -5 degrees outside and you’re trying to fill a bucket with a frozen spicket, you’ll be happy you spent the momey

Growing up, my dad made the hay feeders and looks very similar to what your husband do. They worked great for ponies horses, sheep everything good job.🙏🏻❤️

Tip for outside hah feeders is that you can get a tire and put a bale inside of it so it’s easy and mess free

Honestly a net hay feeder isnt that bad cause it will breakaway if u get the right one, it is better for their digestive system for it to be on the ground, and horses eat to stay warm so just leave them access to hay and keep possums out of it when u store it. A good farrier is important, try to forgo shoes. Minis are notorious for getting fat they can eat grass and hay and be fine i promise they also require a dry lot on rotation for when they get fat.

The feeding net is great, but you need to get one with the right size gaps so they can’t break a leg or hurt their selves😁😁😁😁
