Clips from Sunday’s visit to the Ayala Museum in Makati. The kind staff will guide you through the museum experience. They recommend starting your tour from the 4th floor and working your way down. Highlights of our visit: 🖼️ Gold of the Ancestors permanent exhibit In this exhibit, you will see gold ornaments and accessories worn by the pre-colonial elite. Hindu-Buddhist influence in the Philippines, which is something that I find not often talked about in our history, can also be seen in the shapes and figures etched on the gold. Some pieces in the exhibit were massive good chains referred to as upavita or sacred thread, the Hindu symbol of purity and rebirth. 🖼️ Splendor: Juan Luna, Painter as Hero The centerpiece of this exhibit is Juan Luna’s long-lost obra Hymen, Oh Hyménée which was last seen in public in 1889 when it won a bronze medal in the Exposition Universelle in Paris. The process of repatriation had been tedious but we are now fortunate to see on on display again until March 24, 2024! Luna’s character studies are also found in this exhibit hall. @ayalamuseum is open on Tuesdays-Sundays. You can secure your tickets by making an online appointment or you can also enter as a walk-in visitor. Ticket prices are at 650 pesos/11 USD for adults. Discounted rates are available for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. Hymen, Oh Hyménée is literally a jaw-dropping beauty. We even went back to the room twice! It’s definitely not something you would want to miss out on!
