I am sick of this discussion, the difference in perception has been explained a 100 times and proven in 30 ways, no we aren’t lying, no we aren’t color blind, the brain is just fun like that. You wouldn’t be able to recreate it in a game because it’s not that the lighting changes how the dress looks, it’s that the lighting and specific cropping of the image make some people’s brain’s interpret it incorrectly

it was so irritating when people said "HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY SEE WHITE AND GOLD" like I KNOW, FOR A FACT, THAT ITS BLACK AND BLUE. I KNOW THAT. it's been ten years and I still see white and gold, you can't recreate it in the game because it was caused by how cheap digital cameras handle areas of bright light and dark shadows right next to one another

it's because it's an optical illusion. you change the lighting in the game it changes the colors of the dress to match! the original picture just happened to fall right in line with either a blue and black dress on a sunny day or a white and gold dress in shadow. that's why it went so viral. you could be looking at the exact same picture as your friend shoulder to shoulder staring at the same image and your brains would interpret it differently. one in shadow, and one in light!

It's the lighting engine, it's designed to maintain the original colors not actually look like sunlight, which would make it look warmer.
