@redwoodcenterforchildren: I don’t portray other people’s autism in the playroom because I think it could be disrespectful. All possible neurodivergence portrayed in my videos is my own. But I think working with neurodivergence means being open to divergence in your process, allowing people on the spectrum to access mental health care. #redwoodcenterforchildrenandfamilies #childcenteredplaytherapy #autism #kids #playtherapist

Do you mean that things changed positively or negatively for that client?

When I was 5 my therapist would pretend I was her baby and gave me a bottle 🤔IDK why. It was not child centered I guess. I’m autistic

I think some autistic children can become wary of others intentions braise their play has been judged or coerced. When they finally trust that someone just wants to sit alongside and join it can be a huge shift.

In my (not so humble) opinion, play can be such an equalizer for ND kids. When you enter their world, all bets are off and it's magic.

Im autistic and I hate when people try to act like me or says "everyones on the spectrum" because it usually means they dont understand me but want some control over me anyway. Its generally obvious that im autistic and I worked in a few ABA centers, before I knew what they really were, and when a co-worker would use the "everyones a little on the spectrum" line it always translated to "since WE'RE ALL on the spectrum, you should stop acting autistic. I can do it, so can you" kind of crap. And when they act like us its disingenuous and feels like being copied or mocked as a form of manipulative fake connection, I think thats typical for neurotypical communication and connection but it feels so fake and weird to me as an autistic person.
