Alima :
It’s diabolical, they’re now proposing to exclude the very visa categories I’ve been on for the past 10 years: Student and Graduate visas. It’s completely unfair to change the rules for people who have already spent a decade building their lives here. If they want to introduce such major reforms, they should apply to people entering the UK for the first time, so they know exactly what to expect from the beginning.
What about those of us who have already lived here for 10 years, paid £50,000 a year for education, paid around £1,000 annually in NHS surcharges, built a home and have family here? I’ve completed my bachelor’s, master’s and PhD in this country, taught other students . Why should pursuing higher education count against me? I’ve spent a decade studying, contributing financially and building my future here, only to potentially have the rules changed just as I’m reaching the point of qualifying for settlement.
The very least they should do is introduce transitional arrangements to protect people who have already spent years working towards settlement under the existing rules. We made life-changing decisions based on those rules, and it is deeply unfair to move the goalposts after 10 years.
