I was wondering cardiac tamponade as result of the impact?

When you watch the footage he seems initially like he’s still at least semi conscious because he rolls himself over. Could this still happen with commotio cordis? My guess was a pneumothorax secondary to rib or sternal fractures because he was initially resuscitated and then later deteriorated again. So sad 💔

Hamlin was who I immediately thought about when you said that. So tragic.

I know you can bruise internally, but can the heart also bruise? I don’t think I have ever heard of that. Death of the muscles from MIs yes, but never bruising. Possibly bc it’s protected by the sternum and ribs. Just curious lol. These are the things I think about when it’s stupid late and I cannot sleep.

I may be out in left field here, but they mentioned some neurological involved related to his death, so I wonder if he ended up with a head bleed of some kind that caused a midline shift, and that may be what ended his life. But I like this differential

Wouldn’t commotio cordis respond to COR?

I am curious as well due to the reported resuscitation followed by neurolgical degeneration.

I could be wrong, but didn’t he make it to the hospital, visited with family then overnight something went south? Would these things get caught during initial examination or can some of them be missed?

I haven’t seen any post injury footage. In Hamlin’s case, they started compressions almost immediately. Do we know if that happened in this case?

So do you think he will be charged for his death? Or was it a non intentional hit?

I had heard in another post that he was thought to be stable. People were visiting him, then later that night he passed. Could that be continued swelling?

There needs to be more accountability for athletes who do things like this. Accidents happen but a lot of times they are done intentionally. He knew that guy was there and he had his leg out at almost 90 degrees. Obviously he wasn't trying to kill him but he was trying to "take him out" and this was the result. You don't have to intend to kill someone to be charged with something like involuntary manslaughter.

Is this the same thing that caused Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest a couple of years ago during the Giants game?
