The Xingwen Stone Sea (also known as Xingwen Shihai World Geopark), located in Xingwen County, Yibin, Sichuan Province, is a UNESCO Global Geopark celebrated as a "Karst Landscape Museum." Covering 156 square kilometres, this surreal geological park features carbonate rock strata dating back 250 to 490 million years. It is globally renowned for its unique "Three Wonders in One" karst showcase: the surface stone sea, a massive doline (sinkhole), and an expansive underground network of caves. 1. The Surface Stone Sea ("Frozen Waves") This massive surface stone forest stretches over 10 kilometres from east to west. Densely distributed limestone buds, pillars, and deep dissolution grooves twist together to create a landscape that resembles rolling, silver-grey ocean waves from above, earning it the nickname "frozen waves". The most famous formation here is Couple Peaks, twin stone pillars standing roughly 40 metres high that look like a pair supporting one another. 2. The Great Funnel (Tiankeng) Xingwen is the earliest place in China where Tiankengs (massive structural karst sinkholes) were formally discovered and studied. The park boasts a world-class giant doline measuring roughly 650 metres across and 208 metres deep, creating a dramatic, vertical chasm that plunges straight into the subterranean world. 3. Tianquan Cave & Subterranean Network Beneath the stone sea sits a vast cluster of interconnected karst caves. The crown jewel is Tianquan Cave, a massive underground chamber that maintains a cool year-round temperature of around 18°C. The cave features spectacular, colorfully illuminated stalactites and stalagmites, towering underground chambers, and a flowing subterranean river. #Explore #Cave #China #History #Discover
