Thank you for sharing this. I’m rocking my three month old icsi baby but I refuse to let fear take hold of my mind.

Children born through fertility treatment she usually are born to older parents, and they have older sperm and eggs. That could be the cause rather than the method of conception.

IMO a lot of people are taking the title of this article and running with it to validate their own bias against IVF and create fear to others

Is it just for ICSI-conceived frozen embryos or both ICSI and regularly fertilized embryos as long as they were both frozen?

Was there any analysis done on the types of cancer?

There’s also additional selection happening with cases like mine that may be increasing the numbers. I have an oncogenic mutation I would like to not pass down so I’m choosing to use these technologies to check for genetics prior to implantation. But there may also be additional genetic mutations I might be carrying that have not yet been identified to be oncogenic and my children might have those, and thus be contributing to the slightly higher rates. Also, tons of women with cancer history are using IVF to conceive and there may be other epigenetic factors involved outside of ART.

This is so helpful. I’m also and IVF mom and a therapist specializing in reproductive mental health and this has started to come up in sessions already.

Thank you for explaining the results with such nuance! I was a SUZI baby but my sibos were ICSI babies

The general population doesn’t understand statistics such as relative risk…

I get this, but my first RE laughed in my face 7 years ago when I asked her if there were any long term concerns about using icsi when not necessary

Thank you for this informative talk. I was also thinking about the development of IVF treatment now vs just 10-20 years ago. So different ! So many factors at play.

Thank you! After years of infertility my husband and I were able to have two girls and our embryos were conceived using ICSI and were frozen. I saw someone talk about this study and it did have me worried. I’m so thankful to hear your perspective.

I’m pretty sure our clinic only does ICSI. We have unexplained infertility & my husband’s SAs have always come back perfectly fine. But we did ICSI just bc it has higher success rates

Thank you for talking about this. I am heavily considering IVF been trying to conceive for 2.5 years. 2 miscarriages. Low amh. 35years old. We are just waiting on our genetic tests to come back and waiting to find out if I have endo. If ivf is my best shot than we will likely go that route. I think I’d ideally rather IUI just for cost. Obviously reading headlines like this can impact people’s decisions and I don’t want my choices to be dictated by fear of the unknown. Everything is unknown. Risks in EVERY avenue

I appreciate you taking your time to share this perspective bc I was already freaking out reading that headline that’s spreading all over this plateform!
