@anyi.manchester.u: 🚨Rio Ferdinand on Manchester United going 2-0 down against Roma at half-time. 🗣️ Rio Ferdinand: I’m absolutely gutted watching this from the boys. Honestly, I’m sitting here wondering what I’m watching because there are so many things wrong with this performance. My first question is simple: where was Dalot for the first goal? What was Ayden Heaven doing so deep and out of position? Where is the leadership? Where is the communication? You cannot defend like this at Manchester United. Look at both goals we’ve conceded. There’s practically no defensive structure. Players are switching off, spaces are being left open, and Roma are taking advantage of every opportunity. Harry Maguire looks far too comfortable. He’s slow to react, struggling with the movement around him, and at times looks completely out of it. I expect much more from an experienced defender. And Dalot? He’s a player I’m still struggling to understand. He simply isn’t showing up when this team needs him. He wears that shirt, but performances like this put the entire team in trouble. Manchester United are playing like a mid-table team against a giant. And when you look at the opposition, it’s Roma. Why are United making them look like Real Madrid or Barcelona? First it was Como embarrassing this United side, and now Roma are doing the same thing. How many times are we going to watch this team get exposed before someone takes responsibility? The fans are furious. You can see things being thrown into the stadium, and while I don’t support that behaviour, I understand the frustration. They’ve paid to watch their team compete, not collapse like this. In my time, you couldn’t put in a performance like this and simply walk into the dressing room expecting everything to be normal. There would be serious questions asked. Michael Carrick has a massive decision to make at half-time. He cannot send the same team back out and expect a completely different result. Something has to change. Bruno Fernandes used to be the creative engine of this team. He was the player who demanded the ball, created chances and dragged everyone forward. Tonight, he looks like he’s still trying to find his feet. Mbeumo, Amad and Cunha are good footballers, but they’re not getting the service or support they need to hurt Roma. They’re isolated, and the team isn’t moving forward with any real purpose. Then you look at the midfield. Baleba and Mainoo are both young, talented players, but that partnership looks inexperienced. Roma are finding ways around them far too easily, and United are being exposed between midfield and defence. But my biggest concern is that left flank. Dalot and Heaven are struggling to hold that side together. There’s no control, no defensive balance, and Roma seem to know exactly where to attack. Heaven is young, and I don’t want his confidence destroyed by one terrible night. But Carrick has to recognise when a young defender is struggling and give him the support he needs. You cannot keep watching the same side get exposed and refuse to make changes. United need to stop the bleeding before they even think about getting back into this game. Two goals down at half-time is bad enough, but the manner of this performance worries me most. There’s no urgency, no authority and no sign that these players understand the size of the shirt they’re wearing. Carrick has forty-five minutes to show us he can react to a crisis. If United come out with the same mistakes, the questions about him will only get louder. This is Manchester United. The players have to take responsibility, the manager has to make the right calls, and somebody needs to wake this team up. Dom :
I agree with all except 1 statement. They are playing like a bottom table club, not mid table.
