@doc_pettit_teach: One knock. 25 reactions. Zero instructional minutes recovered. Teachers, does your entire classroom go into DEFCON 1 every time someone knocks?! #TeacherTok #TeacherHumor #FourthGradeTeacher #AnchorChartSeries #ThingsINeverThoughtIdHaveToTeach
don't forget the class-wide simultaneous "ooooooo!" every time the visitor asks for a student 😆

You’re not the only one. And it’s not just 4th grade. I’m a substitute teacher, and I see this in virtually every elementary school classroom.

Mine then open the door, and hang in the hallway “waiting” to see if anyone else is coming. Shut the damn door kids!

Students are not allowed to open at our school so it’s always me.

Our doors open outward and mine has one of those bars that you press in to open it. They love to hit that running at 100 mph with all of their force and make the most noise possible. Mine are sixth graders, by the way, and apparently still need an anchor chart on how to respond when someone knocks.

You’re killing me, Doc!! 🤣🤣🤣 You have a book going here. It should be required reading for every kid (and parent) before they enter school each year!

And my classes when kids go to the bathroom and return, they have to knock on the door. Even though everyone knows who left and that they will be returning, we go through this every single time. I think it’s time to have a lesson on this.

😩 I had to teach this lesson while subbing last week. Thought I was the only one. Started to question my classroom management. This made me feel a bit better.

2nd grade. Our classrooms go directly outside...there are no hallways. So students began announcing someone's arrival bc they saw thru the window! Grrr. I put a stop to that immediately by doing what you just did. A full on lesson with modeling and repeated practice with multiple students until they got it right. Not perfect, but almost there!
