@anatomyofideass: Part 02 : Algeria doesn't have a lithium mine. It wants to build lithium batteries anyway. The plan rests on one kind of battery: LFP, lithium iron phosphate. It's the chemistry in most new electric cars in China (about three quarters of the battery capacity installed there in 2024). It has no nickel and no cobalt, it's cheaper and safer, and it lasts thousands of charges. Weigh what's inside its cathode, the battery's positive side, and lithium is only about 4 % of it. Iron is 35 %, phosphorus 20 %, the rest is oxygen. Algeria has the big parts: Gâra Djebilet in the western Sahara, one of the world's largest iron ore deposits (about 3.5 billion tonnes), and phosphate around Tébessa in the east. So the plan is to import the 4 % and supply the rest from home. It's still a plan: a 2025 agreement with battery scientist Karim Zaghib, not a factory yet. Part 2 of our Algeria lithium story.
