@bunnisparklequeen: i’m in the state of IL. my sister is 23, mentally ill, won’t go to therapy, take medicine, or any of her appointments to see a psychologist. she gets about $600 a month from the state, but spends it all on bullshit, spanks her 1 year old son (my nephew) as “discipline.” yells at him, he gets no attention. today my mom took my nephew to a doctors appointment and he didn’t want to leave my mom because of how attention deprived he is. Her apartment is a mess, she’s breaking all the laws, is about to get kicked out i’m pretty sure, she has no car, relies on our mother for literally everything. She spends $300 in like 2 days. It’s insane. All she does is eat out and spend other people’s money. She’s with her boyfriend who’s a convicted felon, he ABUSES her, he’s on probation and he still drinks alcohol. She came to a family event with a huge bruise on her face that she could barely cover with makeup. I’m scared he’s hurting my nephew too. he will k!ll her and him. i’m terrified for my nephew. He doesn’t deserve any of this what do i do. I don’t want to call dcfs/cps because i feel like it’s really extreme but im really scared for my nephew im sorry if this is all really vague if you could give me more specific questions ill try to answer. my sister will not leave him. she wont call the cops on him because she doesnt want to get him in trouble. he NEEDS to be back in prison and she needs her right revoked from her son!! please help me what do i do

cps doesnt do anything. my younger brother went to talk to a cps worker and she was on my mom’s side solely because she handed him tissues and ‘that shows their relationship’; it wasnt until my mom ghosted her when she requested her to get an alcohol monitor to prove her innocence that she realized, yeah, this woman is actually an addict as all evidence and testimonies suggest. she ignored everything everyone was saying for no fucking reason. if illinois has grandparent’s rights laws that could help, my grandparents got me away from my abusive mother with them and i live in ky. family court is expensive and long as fuck though and its a gamble on what type of judge you will get.

i think with spanking after one open hand hit it’s considered abuse, if she uses a closed fist or a item is it abuse. it varies from state but collect evidence and deff call cps or if you’re in school reach out to your counselor or a trusted adult to see what you can do

Yes but be mindful cps doesn’t really do anything but give second chances my cousin has an abusive mother and my mom called cps on her two times and they didn’t do anything

Im so sorry for your going through!! As sumone mentally ill myself her actions are reprehensible! It is OUR responsibility as the ill person to take action to not harm others!!! Call Cps but be mindful they are essentially useless. Gather evidence, ik it’s scary and i’ve been there, tuck your phone in a hoodie and let her come to you, if she gets violent let her know you have proof. Best wishes!

The police can also be called for domestic abuse and/or child abuse and neglect. I know you don’t want to take extreme measures but that man is dangerous and could kill her and/or your nephew. Stay safe
