The tradition is an older Celtic tradition! But now days some just go to a Halloween store and buy a costume and walk around any neighborhood. If the porch light is off the neighbor isnt giving candy. If their light is on they are giving candy. If their house is decorated with Halloween decorations they are DEFINITELY giving out candy!!! Youll walk up to the door, know and say trick or treat 👻 lol

Halloween is mostly for kids. They will dress up in costumes which can be anything. Literally anything—characters from TV or movies or internet, random objects, animals, anything. Older kids go by themselves and Younger kids will go with their parents from house to house. Houses that participate will leave the outside light on so kids know they will give candy. It’s also a time for scary stories and scary movies. Even adults will dress up for fun.

Used to take my kids out dressed up to go trick or treating. We went into neighborhoods and knocked on doors, people give out pieces of candy to the kids. Some places would give out like drinks and hot dogs. In the weeks leading up we carve faces into pumpkins and i would bake the seeds from it as a treat. Its a lot of fun and everyone has a good time.

The term halloween actually comes from the name of the holiday , all saints day or all hallows day. Halloween is the night before. A lot of it's cultural celebrations are actually linked to the celebrations of Celtic pagan holidays, particularly Samhain. It's suspected that when christianity came to these places , catholic holidays got all blended into already existing pagan ones. It got to the united states because of our catholic immigrant populations , particularly Irish and Scottish people. They brought it with them from home and it got real popular over the years.

I used to enjoy it- carving pumpkins, choosing a costume at the store and knocking on doors saying, “trick or treat”.. the idea is if they don’t give you a treat you will do something to annoy them. I would come home with pillowcases full of candy. if ppl didn’t want to give out candy they would turn their front light off. As I had my own kids in a more rural area we enjoyed carving pumpkins, making costumes and decorations and going to community events at libraries and parades in town.

its mostly for kids up to university students, you choose a costume some buy, some make them. when I was a kid we would have a costume competition at the local fire department and then the kids would go out and knock on doorways with lights on and get candy and home made goodies. most places don't allow homemade foods anymore. nowadays I think most people stick to malls and trunk or treating where large groups go to a school parking lot or the like and go from car to car in my area. but for the pagan ritual the carving of the pumpkins are still done by a lot of families with out the understanding that it is kind of a ward and candles are also important with the pumpkins. dressing up in costumes was also to protect children from the dark beings that walked through the vale. I always loved Halloween. I pray for light of the next morning and that the darlings have carried the lost to their rest place.

our kids play dress up and get free candy in return. it all makes me think about innocent babies in gaza who should have normal lives and be playing dress up or tag or sharing pieces of candy just because. they deserve the most beautiful lives.

I watched someone from Ireland explain it. It came from Ireland 🇮🇪, and they brought it with them to other countries. It is because the spiritual veil is considered thin at this time, so they dressed up in costumes so you couldn't tell who was a scary spirit coming through or a regular person and I think they visited each other's homes and it evolved from there haha.
