Salena | Beyond the Storm :
Hunter, as a mother who spent 23 years in the trenches of my son's addiction before losing him to fentanyl in 2024, your words about painting during recovery hit me somewhere deep.
My son Steven was an extraordinarily gifted tattoo artist, freehand illustrator, and painter. When we saw him drawing or painting, we could almost breathe again. For those moments, the chaos of addiction grew quiet, and we got to see the brilliant, creative man we knew was still in there. His addiction was loud, but so was his talent.
Even after he was shot and became a quadriplegic, he found a way to keep creating art.
People remember the addiction. I remember the art in his hands, the brilliance of his mind, and those precious moments when his spirit was louder than his struggles.
Today, I use his story to fight stigma and advocate for families who love someone battling addiction. I refuse to let stigma write the final chapter of my son's story.
Thank you for reminding people that behind every addiction is a human being with gifts, purpose, and a story worth telling. Your recovery matters, and so does your willingness to share it. 💜
