I recently heard a professor say they don't pause in a lecture and say "any questions?" with a 5 second pause before continuing. Instead, they say "please ask me 2 or 3 questions, and then I will move on." I really like that reframing, and quiet insistence on there being some dialogue.

I’m an adjunct professor, students will ask the same question halfway through the semester about something that I’ve mentioned in class repeatedly, the same thing that I put in the syllabus, the same thing that I posted on canvas, the same thing that I sent an announcement about. I’ve learned not to roll my eyes at them and just repeat the answer calmly. Heck, sometimes I will repeat myself two or three times successively to the point that I sound like a robot. It’s crazy.

In the first week of every semester, find your professors' offices and make a note of their office hours. Do the same for your academic advisor. Make sure you know where you can go for tutoring if needed, and get the relevant schedules

As a professor please explain to me the dumb logic behind "this probably won't be on the exam". Why are professors saying it if its not guaranteed?? Students already know nothing on the syllabus is guaranteed, so when something particular is singled out it sounds like a hint, but then again... since it is not guaranteed... there is now more uncertainty lol. If you're trying to destress students it literally does the opposite... reassurance only reduces stress when it changes what someone has to do. This one changes nothing, so it adds one more thing to second-guess.
