Pretty much the only time I send for testing is if there was also early childhood trauma or if the patient denies childhood symptoms but insists they have ADHD.

I was sent to inpatient in July and told them I knew I had ADHD. The psychiatrist and clinicians said they didn't believe me and wouldn't assess for it. After I left the out patient program I went a found a place to do a full neuropsych assessment and was diagnosed with level 1 autism, ADHD, OCD, and cptsd among other things. Which is very different than the depression and anxiety the other Drs said I had

The referring bout for testing comes not from not feeling prepared to diagnose (most feel competent.). It comes from the stigma of prescribing stimulants and the threat that the provider will be singled out for sketchy prescribing habits. The formal testing helps support the prescriber’s case. Just saying ✌️

I have the gene 🧬 mutation COMPT fast/fast, so it’s pretty much verified I have ADHD. 😅

the way providers create so many hoops to jump through, appts to remember, calls to make for patients with suspected or diagnosed adhd, with zero consideration for how we have the "can't remember tasks, can't make calls, can't jump through hoops" disorder is just so negligent imo. it's like a cardiologists office being at the top of 15 flights of stairs with no elevator—what's being required of the ppl who need this help the most is the very definition of things that we *literally cannot do* 😭
