this got my heart.[Red heart] so I am autistic and my son is autistic and I heard from a counselor once "what if they aren't non verbal but speak another language" I know that's not always the case but in the study a non verbal 5 yr old wouldn't write her letters so her therapy guide tried in cursive. she wrote her letters perfect almost in cursive. I truly hope one day he communicates with you in a way that best for you guys. you are doing so good. proud of you mamas.
