@konah619: Japan just did something doctors have dreamed about for decades. 🧠 The first patient has now received the world’s first approved stem cell therapy for Parkinson’s disease. Surgeons at Kyoto University Hospital transplanted millions of lab grown cells into the brain. These cells are designed to replace the dopamine producing neurons that the disease slowly takes away. In a Nature study from Kyoto University, seven patients were treated and four of the six evaluated showed better movement scores. 🔬 Approval is conditional and larger trials are still needed. Over ten million people worldwide live with Parkinson’s, according to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Imagine a grandparent finally holding a cup without shaking. 💙 Hope is getting closer. 📌 Sources: Nature 2025 Sawamoto et al Kyoto University, CiRA Kyoto University, Sumitomo Pharma, AFP, Parkinson’s Foundation
