@techinherstep: How do you spot a scam call when the caller gives you legitimate information? I got a very suspicious call from someone claiming to be from American Express about an unauthorized transaction which then turned into a newly opened credit card under my name. I walk you through the red flags that alerted me to the scam and offer some tips on what to do if you end up receiving the same type of call. You don’t have to prove anything on the call, you don’t even have to say anything. You should hang up and call the institution yourself from the phone numbers in the back of your card or statement. #scamawareness #scamprevention #scams #identitytheft #fraudprevention
I’ve been getting daily calls from different phone numbers about income tax penalties and to call back immediately. So annoying

All numbers not on my contact list go to voice mail. If it’s important they’ll usually leave a message.

I keep getting a call from a company stating they are trying to serve me legal documents. They said I was being sued by someone. He had the last 4 of my SS numbers and wanted me to confirm. I was not given any information and he started to get aggressive. I believe it's a scam and they keep calling me.

Heard someone hung up, called back using phone number in back of his credit card using his phone infected by virus and phoned back to scammers. Is that possible ?

Amex called me about wire fraud on my high-yield savings account. I thanked the rep and said I would call the main number to confirm the info. And unfortunately it was true.

My mom told me to say “detective this is the fraud call”. They would hang up. Ok, that was 40 years ago, I wonder if that still works.

👍 Thank you! I see A LOT of these “I was scammed” videos and they all have the same common denominator. People are engaging with incoming Phone Calls, Texts, Emails & Links. In the U.S. it is a BILLION DOLLAR A YEAR “INDUSTRY”. If only people would do EXACTLY what you did and hang up and contact whoever the caller is claiming to be. Check out Reporter Lori Fullbright if you can, she covers ALL the scams. It’s been quite an education for me. 🙂
