DAZAI did that because he was basically raised in the mafia, so he was surrounded by violent techniques and never found a problem with them… meaning it’s of course going to take a toll on how he treats anyone Hes with, especially when teaching/training someone to become ready to live the life he had lived, so of course he wouldn’t see a problem with the abuse back then, as it was seen as normal. Although mori never hit him and such, he was also emotionally groomed because mori told him if he did what mori said he would finally get the chance to die, which never happened (yet) AND mori used him for the mafia and his own profit (which his guilt is shown in Elise too). Adding atsushi to this is also stupid because when dazai left the mafia, he joined the armed detective agency to try and fulfill oda’s dying wish of becoming a good person. When met with atsushi, he decided to CHANGE HIS ABUSIVE WAYS of mentoring to be the good man Oda wanted him to be. And because of this change of ways, the only reason he hasnt really fully allowed akutagawa to prove himself (although he Alr has), is because if he admits it, he thinks akutagawa just won’t have his reason to live anymore. And akutagawa will just khs or something, which he doesn’t want akutagawa to do. But after the big guild fight, he had GENTLY placed a hand on akutagawa’s shoulder and told him he had become strong, only giving him slight criticism so that he still had a reason to keep working for Dazai’s approval. Dazai emotionally groomed and physically abused akutagawa because that’s what he was taught was the norm and he was also emotionally groomed from mori, so of course he’d think that’s the overall best way to do it. I’m not completely defending dazai, but it’s barely his fault in the end.
