@shediedfirst: because “just distract yourself” is fucking useless when your brain has already decided we’re doing this tonight. what actually helps you interrupt it? #grief #grieftok #bestfriendloss #griefsupport
I journal🥹 i get out everything I wanna say to her on paper, especially when those waves of panic come over me that shes actually gone, ill never get use to life without her, i miss my best friend so much, its 20 months now & i genuinely think the second year of grief has been harder than the first💔

I work on a ranch because I couldn’t handle my job or life after my best friend died, and usually when this loop starts I am out feeding the animals, so I stop and pet the horses for a few minutes. Other than that, this guy is pretty much the only thing keeping me going. She got him for me for my birthday last year

Go get a drink. Water preferably, because then I'm hydrating, so if I end up crying, I'm not feeling even worse because I'm dehydrated. I still miss her, but it does interrupt the loop. Not usually for long, but sometimes long enough for me to catch my breath. Doesn't always work, but at least I'm drinking more water I guess?

I started running. It doesn't help the loop but for awhile my brain is only focused on finishing my run and I don't think about the fact that my son is dead. I miss him more when it's done. He would've told me I'm crazy but he'd be proud of me. I miss him so much.

when it hits me, i force myself to find the funniest bestest memory of him and then I smile through the pain.

I think of something oddly specific about them. Papa: dimes. Grandpa: carrots, cardinals, his pickup truck. Nana: the Red Sox vs Yankees game and blue jays. Grandma: goldfinches.

my sister just lost her husband a month and a half ago. (he was 30).. the only thing that’s been helping is to go for a walk every time you feel it. even if you don’t want to go for a walk, just go. the sun basically does a body reset and you’ll feel better when you get back.

The last thing she texted me was thanking God for my husband. He was the only one she ever approved of and if anything, I’m glad she died knowing I was finally loved properly.

It doesn't stop. You just get better at holding back your emotions. Would you like to tell me about them? That part does help. You get to keep them alive.

Chicken Tender 9000 :
There’s a psychological explanation for why grief can hit you out of nowhere, even years after someone dies.
Your brain spent years building a world in which they existed. It learned their sounds, their routines, and all the tiny, ordinary ways their presence fit into your life.
Those expectations don’t simply disappear because you know they’re gone.
So sometimes, in the middle of doing something completely mundane, reality collides with those expectations.
And suddenly, the loss feels brand new.
They’re gone. They’re really gone.
Then comes the looping. Replaying memories, final moments, everything you wish you’d done differently, and all the moments you’ll never share.
It’s as though your brain keeps searching for a way to change something that cannot be changed.
But grief isn’t a problem you can solve by thinking about it hard enough.
And perhaps that’s its cruelest feature: the mind keeps searching for a solution to something the heart never wanted to accept.
Sometimes you’re not forgetting that someone died.
You’re remembering, all over again, what it means to live without them.
