Structured attack, tactical kicking and beautifully executed backline moves showed rugby league intelligence at the highest level. A long pass that sets up a try and a flick pass that opens up space for a long range finish do not happen by accident. They come from preparation, timing and reading the defence while under enormous physical pressure. Those are the moments that separate good players from great ones, and Tonga and Samoa produced plenty of them.
