i always hate the: "they are too young to understand" like no the hell no. if i knew at 8 that being beaten up is not normal, then its a problem in how on is socialised. you can be 50 and still accept this sorta thing as normal.

A spouse that hits you is not a spouse that loves you. It doesn’t matter how much you love them, they do not love you back. You deserve someone who does. Man or woman, doesn’t matter. Leave when it’s safe to do so and and stay gone. You go back to them, and it’s going to happen again. Not blaming any victims, yes there is a psychological aspect to the abuse that makes you try and do better and make them love you but that needs unwiring. The abuse is 100% on the abuser.
