🚨Michael Carrick on his heated altercation with Matheus Cunha after Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Roma: 🗣️Reporter: You were seen exchanging heated words with Cunha despite his two goals. What exactly happened? 🎙️Michael Carrick: “I was genuinely happy with his performance. Scoring twice in such an important game is fantastic, and I made sure he knew that. But I wasn’t happy about the red card. It was unnecessary, and I expected him to understand the consequences of leaving his teammates in that situation. 🗣️Reporter: Did he apologise for his actions? 🎙️Michael Carrick: “No, and that’s where the disagreement started. He wasn’t interested in apologising. He basically told me that he had single-handedly won us the game by scoring twice and that I should be thanking him instead of criticising him. I told him that two goals don’t give you permission to ignore your responsibilities to the team. He responded that without him, we probably wouldn’t have won the game in the first place. Things got quite heated because neither of us was willing to back down. I respect his confidence, but there’s a difference between confidence and refusing to accept responsibility. 🗣️Reporter: Have you managed to resolve the situation? 🎙️Michael Carrick: “We’ve spoken, but I made my position very clear. I’m happy with his goals, I’m happy with the three points, but I’m not happy with the way he handled himself. Cunha is an important player for us, but I want everyone to understand something: NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN MANCHESTER UNITED. Not me, not the players, not even the biggest superstar in this dressing room. You can score a hat-trick, win us a final or deliver the most incredible performance, but you still have responsibilities to this badge. If you make a mistake, you must accept it. That’s what being part of this football club means.” - @football.scope3
