These are the animals that genuinely terrify me. One of the most common questions I’ve received is, “What animal are you most afraid of?” The truth is that there are probably too many to squish into one reel. A huge part of being a wildlife storyteller is understanding that countless animals out there could easily wreck my day if I came across them, and there are some in particular that I want to keep well away from me. So in the spirit of Halloween, here are my top picks for the scariest animals in the world. The first is the Brazilian wandering spider. While I don’t mind spiders, I’m also not their biggest fangirl, and this spider native to Central and South America is one I’d be double-checking my shoes for. Aptly known also as armed spiders, they're among the most venomous and deliver a painful bite. But that’s not even the weirdest part. Tough luck if you’re a guy and you get bitten, because you’re about to be treated to the most painful hard-on of your life. But even those toxins are nothing compared to the sting of the most venomous animal in the world, and it’s one you can barely see. There are dozens of species of box jellyfish, but only a few pack the nastiest punch. One of them is the Australian box jellyfish, with venom capable of stopping a human heart in 2-5 minutes. And just for fun, this animal also has 8 testicles, 24 eyes, and is one of the few box jellyfish species to actively swim through the water - not that you’d see it coming, as it's nearly invisible. And lastly, the saltwater crocodile. The largest reptile in the world at 23ft, the salty holds the record for strongest bite force in the animal kingdom. While animals such as hyenas and hippos have stronger bites across the board (at 4500 Newtons and 8130 Newtons, respectively), one saltwater crocodile was measured at a whopping 16 414 Newtons (3689lbs of force), setting a world record and solidifying itself as an animal you don’t want to get on the bad side of. While I love all wildlife, acknowledging that some animals make me uneasy is important to having a respectful and meaningful connection with the natural world. What creature scares you more than anything? Leave a comment! #AnimalFacts #DidYouKnow #weirdfacts #interestingfacts #wildlifefacts
