A 32-year-old Broward man has been arrested after police said he tried to kidnap a 13-year-old on Monday. According to information provided by the Miramar Police Department, officers were called to the Shell gas station at 2840 S. State Road 7 in #Miramar to investigate reports of a possible attempted kidnapping. Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss said the girl was walking to her home when the incident happened. He said,
A 32-year-old Broward man has been arrested after police said he tried to kidnap a 13-year-old on Monday. According to information provided by the Miramar Police Department, officers were called to the Shell gas station at 2840 S. State Road 7 in #Miramar to investigate reports of a possible attempted kidnapping. Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss said the girl was walking to her home when the incident happened. He said, "This guy walks next to the child and suddenly puts his arm around the child and puts the kid in a headlock, and that child starts screaming, and she broke free and ran into one of our business locations where help was available." Police said that the suspect, who has since been identified as Michael Polanco, of Davie, tried to kidnap the teenager and then fled west. "This suspect is from Davie, and why he was in Miramar I don't know, but the message is if you do the crime, one, you shouldn't do it and two, don't come to our city if you are doing it because we are going to catch you," Police Chief Moss said. As police officers were responding to the location, they received information that a man matching Polanco's description had been spotted in the area, causing another disturbance. Police officers then diverted to that area, found the suspect, and detained him to investigate. That suspect was then positively identified by both the teenager and a witness who saw the incident unfolding. "It was very smart of this kid to fight and to break free and to draw attention to the situation and make sure help is available. One thing here is that if they take you from one location to the next location, you don't know what dastardly things can happen, so you have to run, and you have to fight and draw attention to yourself so you will not be taken away," Chief Moss said. Polanco was then arrested and transported to the #Broward Sheriff's Office. He is charged with battery causing bodily harm and kidnapping and inflicting bodily harm upon or terrorizing a victim. "We do know he has an extensive criminal history and one of the things that was disturbing is that he had a previous history of indecent exposure or exposing himself to someone, so that kind of gives us an idea of the motivation, but we may never be sure," Moss said. Police said Polanco has been charged in the past with felony battery, burglary, and possession of illegal narcotics. CBS News Miami stopped by his home in Davie, but no one answered the door when we knocked. Chief Moss said the victim's family did not want to say anything about this case. #browardcounty
