In 1985, Kim and I were homeless. Not broke. Homeless. We slept in our car. Then a friend’s basement. Nine months. No income. Our families kept saying, “Just get a job.” And here’s the thing… money is NOT what saved us. Something else did. Most people don’t realize there are four disciplines. Mental. Emotional. Physical. And the fourth one… um… MOST PEOPLE underestimate. Think about it. In Vietnam, I watched men stronger than me. Smarter than me. Their bodies still worked. Their minds still worked. Then… something went quiet inside them. And the other three collapsed at once. I’ve seen it in business too. Walking away. Not out of money. Not out of talent. Out of spirit. That’s the fourth. Spiritual discipline. And in Vietnam, firepower didn’t keep my crew alive. Caring more about the man next to you than yourself did. Rich dad never called it love. But he lived it. Give more than you take. Build things that serve people. Chase only money… and you build something hollow. I’ve built a few hollow things myself. So here’s what saved us in that basement.
