Today marks 1199 days sober. I didn’t choose sobriety in the conventional sense, it became a necessity for my survival. Initially frightened, I was incredibly grateful for another chance at life. So, my question today is: how to stay sober and navigating the festive season. For many years, festive celebrations meant alcohol was part of almost everything. Christmas parties, family gatherings, nights out, Christmas Day celebrations and for me wrapping presents was a serious night of drinking. Still shocked everyone got the right gift!! I think it’s normal to worry about: ●	Being around people who are drinking. ●	Feeling pressured to have just one drink. ●	Missing the social side of drinking. ●	Explaining why you aren’t drinking. ●	Dealing with emotions that alcohol once helped you avoid. But here’s what I’ve learned: You don’t need alcohol to enjoy Christmas. ❤️ Being sober means waking up without hangovers, remembering the memories you make, being present with the people you love and, most importantly, protecting the second chance at life you’ve worked so hard for. It’s okay to say no to invitations, leave early, have a non-alcoholic drink in your hand or take a little time out if things feel overwhelming. If this is your first sober Christmas, please remember you are not alone. Take each occasion as it comes, be kind to yourself and celebrate how far you’ve come. Christmas isn’t about what’s in your glass. It’s about the memories you make. 🥰 If sharing my experiences helps just one person who is struggling with alcohol, encourages someone to consider sobriety, or gives someone the courage to take that first step, then opening up about my journey is worth it. I also want to be honest about the ups and downs, because sobriety isn’t just about giving something up. It’s about discovering what you can gain. I’m incredibly proud of myself. Yes, I’ve made mistakes and cringe at some of my actions and words, but I survived all of this and emerged stronger. If you’re on your own sober journey, please share your sober days below. ❤️ #sobriety #soberjourney #weightlossjourney #sobercurious
