I like to imagine he didn’t intend to quit, but when he picked up the pack of cigarettes Dottore was all he could think of. And suddenly the smell of them was sickening. The smoke no longer satisfying. He half expected to hear a familiar voice chastising him yet again. The silence only felt more bitter than he’d expected, and he couldn’t help but wonder if he was more fond of the way Dottore lectured him about it than he was of the cigarettes in the first place.

You know, I love how Pantalone and Dottore’s relationship is never explicitly defined, yet there’s still this underlying sense that, in their own way, they were there for each other.
