@mind_yourboundaries: ‼️UPDATE: Remember the DIL who wrote in after her MIL turned into her biggest support system after she experienced the loss of her first baby? Well, that support continued well after the birth of her next baby. And this MIL… she showed up in ways that most of us would hope and dream our own moms and mothers-in-law would. When this DIL’s own husband didn’t know how to properly care for his wife, the MIL stepped in, cared for the DIL, her newborn grandchild, and advocated for her DIL when she needed to see a doctor. I mean, this woman is a superhero! We love sharing positive mother-in-law stories, so if you have one, just comment “brag” and we’ll send you the submission form. Thanks so much for this update, for asking for help when you knew you needed it, and for being brave enough to share your story to inspire others to do the same. Congratulations on this new chapter, and we wish you all the best! 💛 PSA - This story was shared by one of you for educational and reflective purposes only. I envy people that have a good relationship with their in laws. My MIL was "fun" bc she was loud and crazy but she never stepped up for me. I had 3 kids before marrying her son and we had 1 child together. All 4 kids are ours!! But my MIL only acknowledged the 1 child. Horrible!

I had no idea what support looked like but thankfully my MIL did. She showed up after each baby for three weeks straight with home cooked meals and deep cleaned our home.
She said this is what her MIL did (Grandma Jean 🙏) and she always wanted to pass down the tradition, if she ever got the chance. 🥹
Best support I could have ever asked for. And this is just ONE WAY she showed up for me.

I’m convinced my in laws contributed to my post partum anxiety. I was sent home 12 hours post (healthy straightforward) birth and they were at my house at 8AM. Stayed for HOURS, ignored me, held my baby and wouldn’t give him back when I asked, my husband was so shell shocked I don’t think he picked up how stressed I was, and anxious. I tried several times to get the baby back. After I had severe agoraphobia and made excuses for weeks about why people couldn’t come over because I didn’t want them to take the baby

Brag. My mil is truly a blessing. So is my mother. They both were there in anyway I needed. We even stayed at my parents house the first 2 weeks after leaving the hospital. That was after a 10 days being in the NICU.

I received no help from my MIL. few months after my daughter was born I came down with strep and pink eye. My daughter also had pink eye and I couldn’t take care of her and we practically had to beg my MIL to help. She’s my ex MIL.

My mother-in-law was the first person to tell me to marry her son - before it ever occurred to me, even! I miss her.
