3 things I stopped chasing at 45. 1. “Advanced” yoga asanas. After 25 years of yoga — including years of Ashtanga six days a week — I spent a long time chasing what the yoga world calls advanced. Deeper backbends. Harder shapes. The next series. I thought pushing further meant I was progressing. But the truth? I was often exhausted, depleted, and dealing with chronic pain. And when I finally achieved those “advanced” poses… Nothing magical happened. I wasn’t more spiritual. I wasn’t wiser. I was simply someone who could bend a lot. Now my practice is about feeling good in my body, regulating my nervous system, and moving in ways that nourish instead of deplete. 2. The “perfect body.” (Whatever the fuck that means.) Flat abs. No cellulite. No wrinkles. No body hair. A body that somehow never ages or changes. A body that has to be perfectly manicured and polished to fit a beauty standard that keeps women looking almost pre-pubescent. A standard created by a patriarchal pedo culture that has long been uncomfortable with real, powerful, grown women. Entire industries profit from convincing women that we are never enough. At some point you realize the game is rigged. So I stopped chasing the “perfect body” and started honoring the real one I live in. 3. Other people’s approval. With age comes a freedom no one talks about. You stop trying to fit into everyone else’s expectations. You stop shrinking parts of yourself to make others comfortable. You start speaking your truth. Being unapologetic about who you are. And realizing your energy is far too precious to spend trying to be liked by everyone. At this age you finally understand: You don’t need permission to be fully yourself. #womenover40 #femininewisdom #agingpowerfully #holisticmama
