“What will it take for you to show that you care about me, do I need to have a literal ax in my head?!” Halloween came at a good time here 🤣🎃 The truth is, couple’s conflict can feel like this sometimes!! That no matter how hard you try, and no matter how legit the need is, your partner just does not seem to care. And as an attachment therapist and educator, I do not want to promise you that they do. Because sometimes they genuinely don’t and that is a super important truth for you to accept. The good news is though, the vast majority of the cases where caregiving is a problem, it’s something that can be worked through. I wanted to show you this satirical skit so I could show you how caregiving operates as what I call Caregiving Bids in your relationship. I wanted to give a name to those moments when you reach for your partner not because you just want to share an emotional moment with them, but because you genuinely need their help and capacity. And I wanted to show you HOW MANY caregiving bids the neglected/under-responded to partner sends to just even try to get one emotional need met. It’s A LOT!!! To make it worse, the outcome is normally a painful mix of “help,” that hurts and teaches the partner sending the caregiving bid that ultimately, they are rejected and alone when it comes to holding their own pain. This produces what I call attachment suffering: when we are STUCK in a pain loop with our partner and you guys can’t break out of it. Check out my full episode to learn more about caregiving bids, how they’re already at play in your relationship, and receive my bonus caregiving bids map too 🫶🏻🫶🏻 #skit #satire #relationshiphumor #caregivingbids #relationshipcommunication
