@redditstorytime21: Elon Musk poured hundreds of millions of dollars into helping Republicans win the midterm elections. But when the results went the other way, the billionaire responded with a sarcastic joke that quickly attracted attention. On Wednesday, November 4, Musk reacted to the Democrats' victories in the US midterms with a post on X. "Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn't work this time," he joked, adding a shrugging emoji. The comment came after Democrats secured control of both the House and Senate, delivering a major setback for Republicans. Musk reportedly contributed nearly $500 million to Republican efforts this election cycle, making him the largest individual donor in a federal election cycle since unlimited independent election spending was allowed in 2010. One of the biggest battles involved Texas, where Republican Ken Paxton received massive outside financial support, including $158 million from Musk's donations to the Senate Leadership Fund. But Democrat James Talarico defeated Paxton, ending the Democrats' decades-long losing streak in statewide Texas elections. Talarico even called out the influence of America's wealthiest figures during his victory speech, highlighting the enormous financial resources spent against his campaign. Texas Governor Greg Abbott also lost his reelection bid to Democrat Gina Hinojosa. Musk later joked that moving data centers into space was looking increasingly appealing, particularly after two Democratic victories in a state where his companies have major operations. For a billionaire who spent nearly half a billion dollars backing one side, the election results delivered an unexpected punchline. #ElonMusk #MidtermElections #USPolitics #Election2026 #newsupdate
