this is so odd to me. I drink. I love to drink at weddings. never been to a wedding without an open bar. but if my loved one was getting married, I'd still be there.

I cannot imagine HAVING to drink alcohol so much that I couldn't attend a wedding/event if they didn't have alcohol. I'm also the person in a group that is generally not drinking.

An open bar is not mandated but should be called out on invitations.

I did not have an open at my wedding. My husband and I are not big drinkers and do not need to drink to have a good time! You need to drink, buy your own alcohol.

At my little sister's wedding she had a bar with a list of specific cocktails they wanted ' they bought all the alcohol themselves. My brother in law- my oldest sister's husband, came up to the bride complaining they didn't have beer and they needed beer and he was going to go get some to put at the bar. She told him he could buy beer for himself and go drink in the parking lot or him and our sister could leave .She was so mad!

I’ve never told anyone that I wasn’t going to their wedding because there was no bar/no open bar. That’s not a good enough reason for me to decline the invitation.

When did weddings become all about open bars and getting drunk. A wedding should be about celebrating the couple, love, friends and family.

I have a question, if you could possibly help. We want to do a destination wedding out of country, but would like to host a dinner in the states for anyone that can’t make it. Is there a good way to do that or invite people to that or is that an absolutely knot?

She didn’t say it was alcohol free. Could’ve just byob auntie. Would I be a little annoyed about a dry wedding? Sure. I’d still go and have fun, and the last thing I’d do is even bring it up to the bride or groom.

I can’t imagine asking guests to pay for anything, but the Aunt sounds horrible. Maybe it’s horrible on both sides bc who invites you to a party they’re selling drinks at?

We did not have alcohol at our wedding. We had multiple people telling us they weren’t coming because of it. As far as I was concerned, it helped me weed out who actually cared about us and wanting to celebrate and support our marriage, and who just wanted an excuse to party. Didn’t miss them at all.

I've never been to a wedding that didn't have an open bar, but a guest demanding one is wild.

The audacity to reach out to bride like that. I’d rescind the invite anyway

I'm a an open bar, limited bar (beer/wine) or no bar kind of host depending on the crowd. I think cash bars are tacky, but not going to a wedding because of booze or no booze one way or another is selfish.

At my son’s wedding he knew he had a bunch of rowdie friends. They intentionally chose a beer and wine only option. Some friends stayed well past midnight. The also served pizzas as a late night snack.

Friends of ours couldn’t have an open bar because of the hall it was held at, but they made sure to give out drink tickets the whole night!!

I went to a wedding that didn't even have alcohol for sale. It was an awesome, low key wedding.
