@japdmedia26: Florida, USA 🇺🇸 — Florida has made political history after Republican Byron Donalds defeated Democrat David Jolly to become the state's first Black governor. With nearly all votes counted, Donalds secured approximately 50% against Jolly's 48.7%, winning by a margin of about 108,000 votes. Donalds, 47, is also set to become the first Black Republican elected governor in American history. He will succeed Ron DeSantis and take office on January 5, 2027. Meanwhile, Democrat Angie Nixon narrowly missed making history in Florida's special U.S. Senate election after losing to Republican Senator Ashley Moody. Moody received approximately 50.9% of the vote, compared with Nixon's 48%. Nixon had previously surprised political observers by defeating Alexander Vindman in the Democratic primary, despite being significantly outspent. Vindman had raised more than $16 million compared with less than $1 million for Nixon. Her general-election campaign focused on affordable housing, healthcare, universal childcare and public education. Donalds campaigned on conservative priorities, including tax reductions, immigration enforcement, education changes and lowering insurance costs. His victory speech included a message about Florida's political direction: “I want you to hear from Florida that we are still red,” Nixon acknowledged her defeat but promised to continue fighting for her supporters. “Thank you, Florida. We didn’t get the result we fought for tonight. I’m not going to pretend that it doesn’t hurt. But I want y’all to hear me. What we built together is REAL,” Nixon said Tuesday night. “Every door you knocked, every call you made, every dollar you gave and every friend you brought to the polls proved that working people in this state are ready for something better. That movement isn’t going anywhere, and neither am I. The fight continues.” Nixon has also indicated that she intends to run for the Senate again in 2028. Donalds' victory extends Republican control of Florida's governorship, while Moody's win keeps the Senate seat in Republican hands. The election delivered a historic breakthrough for Donalds and a disappointing but competitive result for Nixon.
