@_ytuaeb_: Two days ago, my son was officially diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (sJIA). After an exhausting month of going in and out of children’s hospitals, emergency rooms, and urgent care, we finally have an answer. A month filled with unanswered questions, countless tests, X-rays, MRIs, blood work, and so much uncertainty. My baby was experiencing high fevers every night, occasional rashes, swollen joints, and severe pain affecting his ankles, knees, wrists, and shoulders. He went from being an incredibly active little boy to suddenly being unable to walk, use his arms, or even attend school. We watched him come home sick, hurting, and struggling to do things that once came so naturally to him. There were moments when nothing seemed to help. Steroids, Naproxen, and Ibuprofen weren’t providing the relief. It wasn’t until we were referred to a rheumatologist that someone was finally able to connect the pieces and give us a diagnosis. As a mother, it breaks my heart to know that even after everything we’ve been through, this is only the beginning of another difficult journey. Knowing that my child has a chronic autoimmune disease and that there is still so much ahead of him is something I’m struggling to process. I wish I could take away every bit of his pain. I wish I could trade places with him. I wish I could do more than hold him, comfort him, advocate for him, and make sure we stay consistent with his treatment plan. But for now, that’s what I will do. I will continue showing up for him and fighting for him. He deserves to be a little boy. He deserves to run, play, go to school, laugh, and just be a child without pain. Please keep my baby in your prayers.
