@classifiedeast: On 27 April 1978, an Afghan army officer led a column of tanks towards Kabul’s presidential palace. His name was Mohammad Aslam Watanjar. A Soviet-trained tank commander, Watanjar had helped Mohammad Daoud Khan overthrow Afghanistan’s monarchy in 1973. Five years later, he turned against the same president. During the Saur Revolution, Watanjar commanded tanks that opened fire on the presidential palace, helping communist military officers overthrow Daoud Khan, who was killed alongside members of his family. But Watanjar’s political alliances soon shifted again. In 1979, after falling out with Hafizullah Amin, he sought refuge inside the Soviet Embassy in Kabul. He subsequently returned to power following the Soviet intervention that removed Amin. Watanjar later served in several senior government positions and became defence minister under Dr Najibullah in 1990. When Najibullah’s government collapsed in 1992, Watanjar fled Afghanistan. He died in exile in Ukraine in 2000. The tank commander who helped overthrow a king, then a president, eventually watched the government he served collapse. 📁 CLASSIFIED: EAST

In 1979 he with Rasion military uniform and tanks accompanied by Babrak , Golab zoe and …. helped in invasion. Then he was the minister of defence that the communist regime defeated and collapsed. Final few time he tried from Okrayn to west Germany but failed and even one time arrested .
