I think one of the most important things to understand about your relationship with God is that you are called to live with Him, not simply for Him. Sometimes, in our desire to become better people, we turn faith into a performance, measuring our worth by how well we pray, how disciplined we are, or how little we struggle. But God is not an impersonal force demanding perfection from a distance; in Jesus Christ, He entered into our suffering, experiencing anguish, grief, loneliness and betrayal. He knows our humanity, our weaknesses and our struggles. We will stumble, fall into old habits, lose our way and sometimes feel distant from Him, but that does not mean we are beyond His love. The Christian life is not about never falling; it is about allowing ourselves to be transformed by grace, finding the humility to acknowledge our shortcomings without allowing them to define us, and the perseverance to rise again. We are not Jesus, and we are not expected to possess His perfection, but we are invited to follow Him, little by little, day by day. Sometimes, perseverance means praying; sometimes, it means seeking help, getting out of bed, or simply making it through another difficult day. There is no shame in being human, and seeking help for your mental health is not a failure of faith. So give yourself a little grace. Strive to become better, but do not despise the person you are today in the process. We strive out of love, not to earn love. You do not have to solve your entire life tonight or become perfect before you turn towards God. You are a work in progress, and that is okay. The point is not to become so perfect that you no longer need God, but to become so rooted in Him that, even when you stumble, you know where to turn.
