Here’s a hint. You can expect her to be fine with spontaneous as long as you have covered ALL of the to do items that need to get done before l the weekend. Grocery shopping, house is cleaned, laundry is clean, folded and ready to go for the weekend ahead, meal prep for the week ahead, gift for the birthday party that is the following weekend is purchased and wrapped. All of those things happen over any weekend in my house because we are a 2 parent working family. I cannot relax and enjoy a spontaneous day on a whim if I don’t know how/when these things are getting done. Expecting her to push it all off to Sunday is not an acceptable answer.

This makes sense. Because you still need to know if you have to shift grocery shopping, cleaning, etc around the “spontaneous” day. Otherwise the whole week is thrown off

Meh, Spontaneity is overrated. It’s like someone giving you an all-inclusive resort pass in Aruba. It sounds nice but you now have to reorganize your work schedule, get someone to watch the dog, research and buy plane tickets, etc.

My birthday is coming up and my bf told me “We’re going on a trip. We’re leaving at noon on the 8th and the drive is going to be 3hrs. We’ll be back home the 10th. We’re going to go on a hike the 9th and you’ll need to pack a swimsuit.” Now i can live in peace and let him surprise me with whatever else it is since my brain has a little plan blueprint😂😂

Best trick I’ve found for myself is to have an anchor plan. My son has soccer 9-10 on Saturdays. We are up, out of the house, so no additional getting ready is needed. Spontaneity can commence.
