@all.libertas: your korean textbook says 설렜어. your korean friend says 심쿵했어. here's how koreans actually talk with friends. four slang words you hear in every k-drama, and the textbook way to say each one. the textbook side is never wrong, it just sounds a little stiff with friends. 설렜어 (seol-le-sseo) means i had butterflies. with friends we say 심쿵했어 (sim-kung-hae-sseo). 심 comes from 심장, my heart, and 쿵 is a thump sound. so your heart goes thump. 그 말에 진짜 심쿵했어 means that line really made my heart skip a beat. 알아가는 중이야 (a-ra-ga-neun jung-i-ya) means we're getting to know each other. the real-life version is 썸 타는 중이야 (sseom ta-neun jung-i-ya). 썸 comes from the english word something, but in korean it means the stage right before dating. 타다 means to ride, so you ride a 썸. 화나네 (hwa-na-ne) is i'm mad. 킹받네 (king-ban-ne) is the fun version. it starts from 열받다, where 열 is heat and 받다 is take. put 왕 (king) in front to make it bigger, and 왕 turned into the english word king. we use it half joking, mostly for small stuff, like someone blocking your car in the morning. 연락 끊었어 (yeol-lak kkeu-neo-sseo) means i cut off contact. 손절했어 (son-jeol-hae-sseo) is the slang. it comes from a stock market word for selling at a loss, so here 손 means loss, not hand. now we use it for people too. there's more slang like this in the app i built, the textbook way and the k-drama way side by side. it's free every day, link on my profile. so where are you right now? 심쿵, 썸, 킹받네 or 손절? tell me in the comments. #LearnKorean #KoreanSlang #KoreanForBeginners #KoreanPhrases #KoreanLanguage
