@dramyexplains: Leaving intensive care is a huge milestone, but for many patients, recovery doesn’t end when they leave intensive care or even hospital. Recovery after critical illness can be a long process, and it looks different for everyone. I think it’s important that we talk more about what happens after intensive care, not just what happens during it. If you’ve experienced intensive care yourself, or supported someone who has, what was recovery like afterwards? #intensivecare #icu #criticalillness #healthtok #medtok Educational content, no medical advice.

very true. ive just spent 10 weeks in the freenan following a Double Lung Transplant. ive been home 2 weeks i can't remember a thing, I have more pain in my sternum as they had to break my breast bone in half along with clamshell incision. ive had more pain being at home than I did in hospital and I have anxiety incase these lungs go into rejection. im in recovery now but its going to take me months. doing daily jobs liek lifting a pan or making a cuppa is painful. I spent a week jn ICU - I was awake for 3 years as I kept having hallucinations. I was seeing scary shit so didn't dare close my eyes.

So interesting. And so true, it’s much more than just surviving ITU and that there is a very long process after ITU. The Royal Infirmary in Glasgow has an amazing program called InS:PIRE which helps people learn about problems that might be a result of their stay on ICU in closing intensive care syndrome - amazing!
