Before Zora Arcus-Duntov, the father of the Corvette, retired, he and his small group of selected engineers would design and build a new and different mid-engine version of the Corvette about every eight to fifteen months including lots of hot laps around the GM test track late at night. Most were photographed thoroughly and then destroyed at the end of the development cycle. A few mysteriously disappeared with no record of their demise. This one is one of the last three that Duntov personally had his hands on and each was deemed production worthy. But the engineer-based pro-high-performance management team retired and the status-quo-is-better-because-itโs-cheaper mob of bean counters took over. Thus, the multi decade delay in getting a mid engine Vette into the dealerships. Iโm a mechanical engineer. My beloved wife of fifty-seven years is an accountant. I promise you the battle is real.
