@funcheta.studio: Mum says never put hot food in the fridge. You'd put it in hot. We simulated 3 litres of curry: mum's way (nine hours on the side) multiplies the bacteria over 100,000 times. Yours, about 250. Both over the safe limit of 10. It's not the heat, it's the pot. Four shallow tubs, straight in: about 8 times. A model with stated assumptions. Putting hot food in the fridge makes the fridge warm making your other food spoil, and overtime can break the temp sensor inside

The reason you let it cool down beforehand is so the fridge doesn't need to waste excess power to make up for the heat from the pot. It's to save money.

I thought the reason for not putting warm food in the fridge is because it causes the fridge to work overtime and hurt its little engine.

putting hot food in the fridge heats the fridge up, which can make the rest of the food unsafe to eat or spoil. let it cool down properly and then fridge it.

I never got sick from a home cooked food made of fresh ingredients in my 46 years of life. Sometimes the pot stays out for a night. Sometimes it's reheated multiple times. Sometimes it stays in the fridge for a week or more. If ingredients are fresh nothing happens.

🚩Tip: I put a trivet in the sink ….half fill with cold water and set the pot in there after having dished up. A couple of stirs and the temp drops drastically quite fast.

it is not that the food is not ok if you put it in the fridge.. it raises the temperature of whole fridge so now everything else is at risk...

Why would you leave it to cool down for 9 hours? Cool it for an hour or so, put it in a food container and then in the fridge

I think the issue is heating up the fridge with the hot food. Thats the way I've always understood it.

The advice has always been, dont put hot food in the fridge, or you break the fridge. Also, food that cools down to room temp is safe while food that warms up to room temp is not. When was it ever about cooling it down fastest?

I'm pretty sure it's about warming the entire fridge which comes with all kinds of issues of it's own, and also dramatically shortening the fridge's lifetime. There's a reason water/ice/weather has always been used to rapidly cool down hot things before going in the fridge.

also the heat causes water to condense at the lid inside, which drips back down into the food ruining the taste

The only reason people don’t put hot food in the fridge is to protect the fridge. No one thinks about germs, all germs already died when the food boiled.
