Yeah she’s south Asian so it’s puh-vi and it’s that deep.

Anytime someone says Pahvi or Neesha I'm tempted to say "and Uhvatar Ong"

"it's not that deep, it's just a name," meanwhile me and many other South Asians who always had their names said wrong in western settings like school and being made fun of it. Representation matters. Even in names.

Like just say the name right. People go out of their way to say a name wrong and then say it’s not a big deal

So it’s not necessarily a U. It’s more of a short ah vowel. But the closest English approximation is a U

It's fine, "पवि" (Pavi) is tricky to get right if you aren't familiar with hindi pronunciation. The actress's pronunciation is spot on

Someone else mentioned that the specific linguistic word for the sound in International Phonetic Alphabet terms is Schwa, which is the most unstressed, neutral sound that is recorded in that vocal mapping. This might be a pretty western lens and I would be very interested in more specific context that Hindi on other regional linguistics might provide. Personally, that reminder gives me a whole new way to analyze her character!

I always get so confused when people insist a characters name is pronounced differently to how the characters in the media say it.

it's still an A sound, not full on U sound. like applause: not AY-pplause, it's UH-pplause. Avengers, Again. idk the proper linguistics terms, but they are technically different sounds

My names Asha. The amount of times I’ve been called Aye-Sha when they all can say Sasha, Tasha, and Basha correctly… made me go insane. I had a receptionist call me Asia for all of high school…
